[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ga-yeon] Lee Ji-young, a social studies instructor affiliated with Etoos Education, has filed a complaint with the police against fellow instructor Hyun Woo-jin of MegaStudy.
According to Money Today on the 28th, Lee filed a complaint against Hyun at the Seoul Suseo Police Station on the 3rd of last month on charges of defamation. The report states that the police have currently launched an investigation and are verifying the facts related to the incident.
Lee claims that Hyun made insulting remarks about her in an open chat room back in 2018.
At that time, more than 50 students were participating in the open chat room, and Hyun reportedly made derogatory comments about Lee such as "Ethics disorder ㅜ that person" and "If you hit the chin, sudden death immediately" in the chat room.
Lee also stated, "Between January and February of this year, Hyun made disparaging remarks about me such as 'pseudo-religious' and 'XXX can be broken without guilt' to students in the classroom where I was teaching."
In the complaint, Lee appealed, "Hyun's acts of defamation were not simply accidental but were intentionally carried out over a long period," adding, "Hyun's defamation has reached a very serious level, so please punish him to prevent such incidents from recurring."
Additionally, Lee's side plans to file an additional defamation complaint against Hyun, alleging that he used sexually derogatory insults through Instagram and other social media platforms to belittle her, once further evidence is confirmed.
Meanwhile, Lee is a well-known instructor who has accumulated 2.5 million online paid and free students in the social studies field. She established herself as a "star instructor" while working as an EBS instructor. She received the Best Instructor Award for Social Studies and Ethics at EBS in 2012 and 2014, and in 2018, she was awarded the EBS Merit Award and was recruited by Etoos.
