[Asia Economy Reporter Joeslgina] "The wedding venue is in Seoul, but the guests are from Daegu." Amid the prolonged social distancing due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), a real-time online wedding ceremony was held via YouTube.
According to KT on the 5th, a couple with relatives in the Daegu area initially planned to hold their wedding at a venue in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, but canceled the ceremony as most guests found it difficult to attend due to COVID-19. In response, KT stepped in to enable a live broadcast of the wedding via YouTube from the venue at 5 p.m. the previous day. KT supported a two-way multi-channel live streaming system so that the bride and groom could exchange congratulatory messages in real time with relatives and acquaintances from both families.
The bride, Ms. Park, said, "My maternal grandmother and relatives in Daegu are in such a difficult situation that they cannot go outside. Considering the cancellation fees for the wedding preparations, we had to proceed with the ceremony, but thinking about the guests, it felt like a nuisance. It was a situation where worries only grew ahead of a happy day. Thanks to KT, we were able to have an online live wedding, making it a happy ceremony for everyone."
Going forward, KT plans to continue non-face-to-face communication cases by visiting places requiring communication such as university freshmen orientations, traditional market shopping, and Army non-commissioned officer commissioning ceremonies. Detailed information can also be found on KT’s website (www.kt.com).
Park Hyunjin, KT Executive Director, said, "We will continue non-face-to-face communication cases such as online weddings to connect social disconnection and activate communication," adding, "We hope that warm comfort and encouragement will be delivered to each and every citizen."
