Visit to Diagnostic Kit Manufacturer Solgent

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daeseop] On the 9th, Park Young-sun, Minister of SMEs and Startups, visited Solgent, a diagnostic kit manufacturing company located in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon. Through a meeting, she listened to on-site difficulties and visited the research center to check the development status of diagnostic kits.
Attending the on-site visit were Minister Park Young-sun, Solgent co-CEOs Seok Dosu and Yoo Jaehyung, and Seo Jung-sun, Chairman of the Korea Bio Association.
Minister Park said, "Despite the spread of COVID-19, the fatality rate in our country is low. This is because diagnostic kits from bio-venture companies like Solgent were developed quickly. Diagnostic kits are the beginning of treatment."
Solgent is a molecular diagnostic kit manufacturer established in 2000. They develop and produce both reagents and molecular diagnostic kits themselves. The company received emergency use authorization from the government for COVID-19 diagnostic kits.
CEO Yoo Jaehyung emphasized, "The core of diagnostic reagents is the amplification drug. It is important to collect samples, break the virus's shell, and amplify the virus's unique characteristics. The raw material for amplification is crucial. We produce that drug ourselves."
Participants in the meeting proposed ▲government support for overseas export of COVID-19 diagnostic kits ▲continuous support for domestic in vitro diagnostic companies to prepare for new infectious diseases.
Minister Park emphasized, "COVID-19 is no longer just a domestic issue but a serious threat faced by all humanity. It is necessary to rapidly spread and distribute our companies' outstanding diagnostic technology."
