[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City will install thermal imaging cameras at all stations of the local urban railway.

On the 6th, the city announced that it will install thermal imaging cameras at 22 stations of Daejeon Urban Railway Line 1 to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and to prevent infectious diseases.

The installation of thermal imaging cameras is a measure to suppress the spread of COVID-19 and to alleviate the anxiety of urban railway users.

The city plans to first install thermal imaging cameras at three stations: Daejeon Station, City Hall Station, and Government Complex Station, and then complete installation at the remaining stations sequentially by mid-month.

Once installation is complete, the city will operate the devices from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Additionally, if a passenger with a body temperature exceeding 37.5 degrees Celsius is detected by the thermal imaging camera (alarm sounds), staff will directly re-measure the temperature and check for any history of visiting COVID-19 outbreak sites, then notify the health center staff to guide the passenger to visit a screening clinic.

Prior to this, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the city provided the Urban Railway Corporation with 10,000 masks, 920 bottles of hand sanitizer, and 150 bottles of disinfectant, and supported a budget of 50 million KRW for disinfecting stations and trains.

Sung Gi-moon, head of the Tram Metropolitan Headquarters of the city, said, “We will strengthen quarantine activities by installing thermal imaging cameras at urban railway stations used by many citizens and alleviate citizens’ anxiety. The city will continue to strive to create a safe and pleasant urban railway environment.”
