[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Seulgi Kim] On the 26th, a petition opposing the impeachment of President Moon Jae-in was posted on the Blue House National Petition Board.
The petitioner stated, "The reasons given for the current impeachment petition against President Moon Jae-in are completely baseless rumors. At this time, nothing can be gained from dividing the nation, filing impeachment petitions against the president, or indiscriminately criticizing the government."
They added, "Let us not forget that this is a time when wisdom is needed to overcome national difficulties by working together, and if each citizen faithfully fulfills their role in their place, we can surely overcome this COVID-19 crisis, so let us stay strong."
On the same day, another petition titled 'We Support President Moon Jae-in' was posted on the Blue House National Petition Board.
The petitioner claimed, "Everyone in the government, including the president, is putting all their efforts day and night into eradicating the virus."
They continued, "Despite adverse conditions, the president is working tirelessly day and night solely for the safety of the people. He is making great efforts for the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions, which have become the epicenter of the virus due to Shincheonji."
They added, "We will definitely overcome this difficult time together with the president, and I firmly believe that the majority of the Korean people will overcome this crisis with trust in the government." This petition has currently received 78,967 endorsements.
Earlier, on the 4th, a petition titled 'We Urge the Impeachment of President Moon Jae-in' was posted on the petition board. As of 1:50 PM that day, it had received 542,095 endorsements.
The petitioner argued, "The most important duty of the President of the Republic of Korea is to protect the citizens. If the president had considered the citizens, he should have banned entry from all regions of China." They added, "Our country has only presented superficial measures and has not implemented any substantial countermeasures."
