[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] Tongyeong City, Gyeongnam Province (Mayor Kang Seok-ju) announced on the 26th that it will temporarily close the traditional market held every 5 days, which has a large floating population, due to the escalation of COVID-19 to a severe stage.

The temporary closure of the 5-day market was decided with the cooperation of the Central Traditional Market Merchants Association and the Chungmu Department Store Association to block the inflow of COVID-19 into the region.

A city official stated, “As the crisis alert level has been raised to severe, we have determined that all risk factors must be blocked to prevent the spread within the local community,” and added, “We are doing our best in quarantine activities to alleviate residents' anxiety and maintain a safe living environment.”
