[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province revealed that it saved 18.3 billion KRW in medical expenses last year through intensive case management of medical aid beneficiaries.
On the 21st, Gyeonggi Province announced that the medical expenses for 5,519 medical aid beneficiaries, which amounted to 66.9 billion KRW in 2018, decreased by 27% to 48.6 billion KRW last year.
The significant reduction in medical expenses within one year is attributed to the effective intensive case management carried out by medical aid managers active throughout the province.
The province conducted focused management through phone consultations and visits to beneficiaries by 93 medical aid managers deployed across 31 cities and counties in the province.
Additionally, to reduce medical expenses, joint meetings between the province and city/county governments and on-site inspections of medical aid were held.
Kim Tae-hoon, Director of the Welfare Project Division of the province, stated, "In the first half of the year, we plan to conduct a survey on long-term hospitalized medical aid beneficiaries, consulting and workshops on case management for cities and counties to strengthen the capabilities and morale of medical aid managers." He added, "We will do our best to manage the health of medical aid beneficiaries and reduce medical aid expenses."
