[Asia Economy Reporter Shinwon Yoon] Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol ranked second in the next presidential suitability survey, surpassing Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the Liberty Korea Party.
On the 31st, Segye Ilbo commissioned the polling agency Research & Research to conduct a nationwide survey of 1,007 adults aged 18 and over from the 26th to the 28th regarding suitability for the next president (sampling error ±3.1%p, confidence level 95%). Former Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon took first place with 32.2%.
Second place was Prosecutor General Yoon (10.8%), third was Party Leader Hwang (10.1%), followed by Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung (5.6%), Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon (4.6%), New Conservative Party member Yoo Seung-min (4.4%), and former People's Party leader Ahn Cheol-soo (4.3%).
Former Prime Minister Lee ranked first in support across all age groups. Notably, his support among those in their 40s reached 43.8%. Regionally, he received the highest support in all areas except Daegu and Gyeongbuk (TK).
His hometown, the Honam region, showed a support rate of 59.7%. In the ideological survey, 50.6% of respondents identified as progressive, while 33.8% and 15.7% identified as moderate and conservative, respectively.
In the conservative camp, Prosecutor General Yoon's rapid rise is notable. He recorded the highest support within the non-affiliated group at 15.8%. Among supporters of the New Conservative Party, he garnered 28.9% support, competing closely with member Yoo Seung-min within the margin of error.
Although the Liberty Korea Party supporters overwhelmingly backed Party Leader Hwang, 19.6% of them preferred Prosecutor General Yoon. Among conservative respondents, Yoon received 19.1%, trailing Hwang (26.4%), but among moderates, Yoon led with 11.9% over Hwang's 6.3%.
This survey used a random digit dialing (RDD) method for both landline (15%) and mobile phones (85%) to select samples and was conducted via structured questionnaires through 1:1 telephone interviews (CATI). The response rate was 10.1% (total call attempts: 9,946). Detailed information can be found on the Central Election Survey Deliberation Commission website (www.nesdc.go.kr).
