[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] As the third confirmed case of Wuhan pneumonia has appeared in South Korea, the Liberty Korea Party has called for the establishment of an ironclad defense system.
Kim Byung-rae, spokesperson for the Liberty Korea Party Youth Division, stated in a commentary on the 26th, "We hope the government will do its best to alleviate public anxiety related to Wuhan pneumonia."
On the same day, the number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection, known as Wuhan pneumonia, increased to three in South Korea, while 56 deaths and 1,975 infections were reported in mainland China.
Spokesperson Kim pointed out, "While the virus spread in China is worsening, serious situations are being reported moment by moment through various social network services (SNS). Public petitions to the Blue House requesting a ban on Chinese nationals entering the country have garnered 210,000 signatures, reflecting the growing anxiety among our citizens about the virus."
He continued, "The government must take this public opinion, which demands at least minimal preemptive measures for public safety, with utmost seriousness and do its best to establish an ironclad quarantine system. We also hope the government will provide responsible responses to virus-related videos and information spreading on SNS so that our citizens can fully access the factual truth about the virus."
