Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Expands Free School Meals to All High School Juniors This Year... Full Implementation for Elementary, Middle, and High Schools Next Year

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dong-hyun] Starting this year, the free school meal program in Seoul will be expanded from 3rd-year high school students to include 2nd-year high school students.

The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 25th that the eco-friendly free school meal program, which began last year for 3rd-year high school students, will be extended to 2nd-year high school students this year.

The Office of Education secured a budget of 397.2 billion KRW, an increase of 65.8 billion KRW compared to last year, to support free school meals. Next year, the program will expand to include 1st-year high school students, enabling all high school students in Seoul to receive free meals.

Since free meals are already provided in elementary and middle schools, from next year, free meals will be fully implemented across elementary, middle, and high schools. To improve the quality of school meal ingredients, the Office plans to maintain the use of eco-friendly agricultural products at a rate of over 70% in elementary and middle school meals this year.
