The Northeast Asian History Foundation has called for the Japanese government to close the "Territory and Sovereignty Exhibition Hall," which reopened in Tokyo on the 21st. In a statement released that day, the reopening was defined as an intensified provocation against Dokdo, expressing "deep concern over the Japanese government's wrong historical awareness and insensitive human rights consciousness, which, instead of reflecting on colonial invasions and healing the wounds of victims, shows a brazen attitude."
The Northeast Asian History Foundation emphasized, "Japan has continued to make absurd claims about Dokdo, which was illegally seized for war efforts, through textbooks, government documents, local government events, and the opening of exhibition halls, but Dokdo is historically, geographically, and under international law, the territory of the Republic of Korea." It added, "The only way to correct mistakes and move toward the future is to sincerely reflect and take appropriate actions."
The Japanese government opened the "Territory and Sovereignty Exhibition Hall" in Hibiya Park in January 2018, but it was criticized for its limited exhibition space and lack of substantial content. Recently, it was reopened on a larger scale at the Mitsui Building in Toranomon, Chiyoda Ward.
