[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Ha Tae-kyung, co-leader of the New Conservative Party, pressured Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the Liberty Korea Party, to accept a party-to-party consultative body. He stated that if there is no response, a serious decision could be made.
Co-leader Ha said in his opening remarks at the 6th meeting of the New Conservative Party leadership held on the 17th at the National Assembly Members' Office Building, "The Liberty Korea Party only talks about unification but acts against it," adding, "Refusing the essential two-party unification consultative body while saying let's unify means they do not want to do it."
He pointed out, "The Liberty Korea Party is admitting itself to be a fake unification force. It's like proposing marriage but refusing the formal meeting of both families and only going around exchanging polite greetings among relatives," and added, "The last of the three principles for conservative reconstruction is 'tear down the old house and build a new one.' To build a new house, we proposed a two-party consultative body for conservative reconstruction and innovative unification, but the Liberty Korea Party is only pretending to unify."
Ha said, "I don't know if the Liberty Korea Party has any will to rebuild and innovate conservatism from its roots," and demanded a prompt response from Leader Hwang, saying, "If you are not going to use the values we have protected while crossing the valley of death as mere packaging for the general election, then wake up."
He added, "If Leader Hwang sincerely wants to unify, he should promptly respond that he will hold a two-party consultative body with the New Conservative Party to build a new house together," and said, "If not, the New Conservative Party will define the Liberty Korea Party as an anti-unification force, and depending on Leader Hwang's response, we may also make a serious decision."
Co-leader Oh Shin-hwan also said, "You must choose whether to unify with the New Conservative Party or with Our Republican Party," adding, "If you intend to cross the river of impeachment, the answer is clear. Change and innovation are not done by holding a rice cake in each hand." Oh said, "Even if you cut your flesh and scrape your bones, it will not be enough, and the general election will be in vain," and pressured, "It is a matter of decision. There is not much time left until the general election."
