[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Only the highest-priced model of the Galaxy S20 will be equipped with a 108-megapixel camera. Samsung Electronics has adopted a strategy to differentiate camera specifications for each Galaxy S20 series model while focusing all its capabilities on the Galaxy S20 Ultra.

On the 16th (local time), IT specialist Twitter user Ice Universe revealed that both Samsung and Sony camera sensors will be used in the Galaxy S20, and among them, the 108-megapixel camera lens will be installed only in the Galaxy S20 Ultra model.

Interest in camera specifications has increased as competitors such as Apple and Huawei started increasing the number of cameras and megapixels two years ago. Apple also differentiated its 'iPhone 11 Pro' from other models last year by focusing on the camera. Samsung Electronics has been paying close attention to cameras, applying triple cameras including a 48-megapixel main lens even in mid-range smartphones like the Galaxy A90.

Compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S20 increases the number of cameras and significantly improves megapixels. Summarizing leaked camera specification information, the Galaxy S20 Ultra and Galaxy S20+ will have four cameras, while the Galaxy S20 will have three cameras. Compared to foldable phones, the Galaxy S series has limitations in differentiating the device's exterior, so it is interpreted that Samsung focused on enhancing basic specs such as cameras, RAM, and battery. The code name for the S20 series is 'Hubble,' named after NASA's satellite-type space telescope.

Among them, the 'Galaxy S20 Ultra' is expected to be the model with the ultimate specifications. The main camera of the highest-priced Galaxy S20 Ultra model is 108 megapixels, the zoom camera is likely to be 48 megapixels, and the ultra-wide-angle camera is expected to be 44 megapixels. A ToF lens, which measures the time it takes for light to return to increase depth, will also be applied. The zoom camera is known to support 5x optical zoom and can achieve up to 100x digital zoom.

The Galaxy S20+ and S20 will be equipped with a 12-megapixel main camera, a 64-megapixel zoom camera, and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. Among these, the ToF lens is applied only to the S20+. All three models have a 10-megapixel front camera, the same module as the Galaxy S10.

Additionally, all Galaxy S20 series are expected to be equipped with 12GB of RAM. Recently, the specifications of the 'Galaxy S20 5G' model were revealed on the smartphone benchmark website Geekbench. The Galaxy S20 is the smallest display model with a 6.2-inch screen, 12GB RAM, and a 4000mAh battery. The chipset is known to be either Snapdragon 865 or Exynos 9830 depending on the country. The Galaxy S20 Ultra model is also expected to feature 16GB of RAM, which is more powerful than a typical laptop.

IT specialist media GSM Arena explained, "The camera sensor megapixels applied to the Galaxy S20 Ultra are the same 108 megapixels as the Xiaomi Mi Note 10, but the sensors are slightly different. The camera module of the Galaxy S20+ will be the same as the S20," adding, "The front camera uses Sony's IMX374 sensor."
