[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Harman unveiled the 'Harman ExP' solution, which integrates connected car, audio, and service package technologies, at CES 2020.
Harman International announced the 'Harman ExP' solution on January 7 (local time) at CES 2020 held in Las Vegas, USA. This solution integrates core technologies of connected vehicles into a package, providing consumers with a more cohesive driving experience that ensures continuous connectivity and meaningful time spent using their vehicles.
Dinesh Paliwal, CEO of Harman International, stated, "OEMs can develop customized technology packages along with Harman ExP to offer consumer-centric driving experiences. Harman develops technology with the end consumer experience in mind, aiming to satisfy consumer expectations while supporting OEMs in strategizing for the future and making technology investments."
Along with various technologies such as connected car and audio solutions, Harman develops customized 'Harman ExP' packages for OEMs based on its unique expertise in the automotive sector and technology, strategic partnerships with content providers like Tencent and Spotify, and understanding of consumer experiences.
At CES 2020, Harman plans to demonstrate through exhibits how OEMs collaborate with Harman to build connected technology experiences inside vehicles.
First, Harman introduced a solution that enhances awareness by integrating cloud, ADAS, and telematics technologies, protecting both drivers and pedestrians while allowing vehicle occupants to stay informed about important matters.
This solution incorporates perception technologies such as blind spot warnings, directional sound steering, and a new vehicle-to-pedestrian warning system that identifies and responds to people in the vehicle's path. It also includes assistive technologies like a voice-enabled virtual personal assistant through the Ignite platform, supporting messaging, navigation, and media selection.
Harman's One for All package presents the future of complex and hyper-connected transportation. The package utilizes ultra-wideband (UWB) technology to enable easy access and connection to the vehicle, as well as personalization. For example, when a driver or passenger approaches the vehicle, the UWB token measures location via 5G cellular connectivity, unlocking the vehicle doors and initiating personalized vehicle system settings. It also transmits information to the Harman Ignite cloud, allowing immediate access to individual contacts, preferred services, media content, and location-based services.
The EV Plus solution, specially designed for the electric vehicle sector, is an innovative audio, entertainment, and communication solution package that delivers a definitive in-vehicle experience to electric vehicle consumers. Harman's innovative acoustic engineering and eco-friendly system design reduce weight, complexity, and power consumption compared to existing systems while delivering powerful performance.
Harman's hyper-connected package is a solution that enables connected car features to be applied as the latest functions to existing vehicles. This includes SmartAuto Connect, an OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) device that provides upgrades such as Wi-Fi, driver and vehicle analytics, and remote access and operation of applications and services. Additionally, the SmartAuto dash cam offers forward collision warnings and accident management functions, while the SmartAuto head unit provides a large display and the latest user interface.
