Emart’s “Unlimited Snack Selection” Event
SNS Certification Craze Leads to Early Sell-Outs
Discounts Combined with Competition and Play Stimulate Consumer Psychology
How many snacks can you buy for 25,000 won?
Recently, Emart stores have been bustling with consumers eager to take on this very question. The "unlimited snack selection" event, which allows customers to fill a designated box with as many snacks as they can for just 25,000 won, has gone viral and is spreading as both a game and a competition. This trend is seen as breathing new life into offline retail spaces by combining experience and social sharing, moving beyond simple discount events.

Among the large-scale discount events currently underway at Emart, the unlimited snack selection event as part of the "Goraeit Festa" is drawing significant attention from consumers. Participation is simple: pay 25,000 won, receive a designated box, and fill it with as many snacks as you can before heading to the checkout.
However, the atmosphere at the event is intense. Online, reviews are quickly spreading of people managing to pack anywhere from dozens to well over 100 bags of snacks, and the event is now being viewed as a "snack-packing challenge." The main motivation for participation has shifted from the price benefit itself to "how many snacks can you fit?"
"How many can you fit?"... Discount event turns into a challenge
On February 3, various online communities and social networking services (SNS) were flooded with photos and videos certifying participation. Pictures of boxes stacked with snacks like towers are accompanied by comments such as "It feels like playing Tetris" and "It's really fun."
Participants report that while they may feel self-conscious at first, once they have the box in hand, they become fully immersed in the challenge. One user wrote, "At first, I was worried about what others might think, but once I started packing, I just wanted to fit in as many as possible." Another user said, "I don't even like snacks that much, but hearing 'how many can you fit' made me want to try anyway." This suggests that the combination of competition and play, alongside the price discount, is stimulating consumer psychology.
"Success with 130 snacks" certifications pour in... Tips and tricks shared
As the event gains popularity, strategies for packing the most snacks are being rapidly shared. A common method is to place snacks in sturdy bags at the bottom and lighter snacks on top. One user, who managed to fit 129 snacks, shared a tip about using the packaging string to expand the storage space at the top of the box. There are even stories of store employees offering advice, saying, "You can fit more if you stack them that way."

3 million bags prepared... Some stores sell out early
For this event, Emart prepared around 3 million bags of popular snacks, focusing on 10 varieties such as Matdongsan, Honey Butter Chips, and Osatsu. This is more than the usual two weeks' worth of sales. Nevertheless, some stores ran out of stock faster than expected, resulting in early terminations of the event. Online, some users expressed disappointment, saying, "I went in the afternoon and it was already over," or "I tried to go with my child but missed out."

Event period extended due to strong response
Emart is holding the "Goraeit Festa" for seven days, from January 29 to February 4, offering ultra-low prices on daily essentials ranging from food to furniture and electronics. In particular, the unlimited snack selection event was originally scheduled to run until February 1, but the period was extended due to an overwhelming response.
Participation is limited to one time per person, and discounts cannot be combined. As the stock prepared varies by store and may run out early, it is recommended to check whether the event is still available at your local store before visiting.
