The signing ceremony was attended by the mayor of Pocheon, the head of NH Nonghyup Pocheon Branch, and the heads of the local agricultural, livestock, and ginseng cooperatives. They shared their commitment to alleviating the economic burden of multi-child families and fostering sustainable cooperation for the local agricultural sector.
This agreement aims to institutionalize and expand the rice support project, which began in 2025 as a social contribution initiative for families with four or more children. Following the enactment of a support ordinance and other administrative procedures, starting in 2026, the city budget will be used to expand the program to include families with two or three children as well.
Under the agreement, families with two or more children (with the youngest child aged 18 or younger) who are registered residents of Pocheon City will receive quarterly deliveries of 'Pocheon Rice,' with the amount varying according to the number of children. Children who are living separately for educational purposes, such as those in elementary, middle, high school, university, or dormitories, will also be eligible. The support amounts are 14 kg for families with two children, 20 kg for three children, 40 kg for four children, 60 kg for five children, and 80 kg for families with six or more children, delivered to each household in March, June, September, and December every year.
Pocheon City expects that over 5,000 multi-child households will benefit from the expanded project. The city also anticipates that establishing a stable rice consumption base will provide tangible support for the income stability of local farmers.
A representative from Nonghyup stated, "It is meaningful to be part of addressing the core issues of stabilizing farmers' incomes and reducing the economic burden on multi-child families in our community," adding, "Since this rice is for children, we will do our utmost to ensure that high-quality Pocheon rice is supplied reliably to each household."
A Pocheon City official commented, "This agreement marks a significant starting point for simultaneously supporting multi-child families and achieving mutual growth in local agriculture," and added, "We will continue to steadily and reliably implement sustainable population policies centered on initiatives that citizens can truly feel."
The expanded rice support program for multi-child families can be applied for at the local administrative welfare centers in each township and neighborhood starting February 2. After eligibility verification, deliveries will be made sequentially beginning about 10 days before the end of each quarter.
