The 'Sustainable Development University' is a civic education program operated by Goyang City and the Goyang City Sustainable Development Council to enhance citizens' understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to strengthen their capacity to put these goals into practice within the local community. Now in its fourth year, this course features a practice-oriented curriculum, including case studies of sustainable development in the fields of environment, economy, and society; methods for citizen participation in solving local issues; and strategies for responding to the climate crisis.
At the opening ceremony, Seo Sungyeon, Co-Chair of the Goyang City Sustainable Development Council, delivered a welcoming address, stating, "A sustainable city created together by its citizens is the very future of Goyang," and added, "I hope that through this program, small actions will come together to create significant change."
In her congratulatory remarks, Kim Misu said, "Sustainable development is an essential task not only for the environment but also for achieving balanced growth across the economy and society as a whole." She continued, "I hope that each participant in this program will acquire valuable information and become advocates for its importance through networking and group activities. As a city council member, I will also do my best to ensure that these efforts bear fruit."
