Palgong Kimchi and Double Up Original Newly Designated as "Daegu Excellent Food"... Daegu City to Support Market Expansion

On July 24, the Daegu Metropolitan Government newly certified two companies and two products, recognized for their safety and quality among locally produced foods, as the region's representative foods under the title "Daegu Excellent Food No. 4."

The "Daegu Excellent Food Certification System" is a program that grants the Daegu Mayor's certification mark to products manufactured by companies headquartered and operating production facilities in Daegu, provided they pass a rigorous screening process.

Palgong Kimchi, newly designated as an excellent company in Daegu, and Double Up Original, a company selling kim bugak, are receiving their certificates.

The newly certified products are "Palgong Kimchi" from Palgong Kimchi Agricultural Corporation and "Double Up Original" from Humanwell Agricultural Corporation. "Double Up Original" is a leading seafood processing company in the Daegu region, selling kim bugak that combines a crispy texture with a savory flavor. The certification is valid for two years. Both products have not only obtained HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) certification but have also successfully passed Daegu City's thorough selection procedures.

Previously, in February, Daegu City recruited companies for certification among local food businesses, initially selecting 16 companies that met the criteria of being established for at least three years, having a manufacturing facility of at least 100 square meters, possessing HACCP certification, and having no administrative sanctions of product suspension or higher. Subsequently, after on-site evaluations, safety inspections (including quality and radiation tests), product evaluations, and final reviews, two companies' products were ultimately selected.

As a result, since the launch of the "Daegu Excellent Food Certification Project" in 2022, a total of 13 companies and 15 products, including the newly certified ones, have now received certification.

Companies selected as Daegu Excellent Food certified businesses receive various support measures, including the right to attach the certification mark, assistance with entering major supermarkets and department stores, participation in domestic and international expo promotional booths, public institution consumption promotion campaigns, and packaging design improvements. These measures help not only to enhance brand recognition but also to achieve tangible increases in sales.

In fact, the 12 companies previously certified have seen their average monthly sales rise by approximately 20.6% compared to before certification, thanks to Daegu City's active support and the companies' own efforts.

Meanwhile, Daegu City conducts annual follow-up evaluations and product sampling inspections to ensure that certified companies maintain high standards of quality and hygiene. In addition, the city enforces a strict re-certification process every two years to maintain the credibility of the certification.
