Foreign Investors Record Net Purchases of 4.3 Trillion Won Since June 2
The KOSPI closed above the 2,920 mark, rising for the seventh consecutive trading session. Continued 'Buy Korea' sentiment among foreign investors provided a boost to the stock market.
On June 12, the KOSPI finished trading at 2,920.03, up 0.45% from the previous day. This marked the seventh straight session of gains since June 2, based on closing prices. The index started the day with a firm tone and at one point reached the 2,930 level.
Foreign investors' buying appears to have driven the index higher. On this day, foreigners recorded a net purchase of 363.5 billion won. Since June 2, they have continued net buying without missing a single day. During this period, the cumulative net buying by foreigners amounted to approximately 4.2989 trillion won. In contrast, individuals and institutions recorded net sales of 91 billion won and 272 billion won, respectively.
Most sectors posted gains. Several sectors rose by more than 1%, including machinery and equipment (4.16%), construction (3.36%), general services (2.56%), transportation equipment and parts (2.14%), insurance (1.37%), and electricity and gas (1.23%). However, paper and wood (-1.21%) and distribution (-1.08%) declined.
The top 10 stocks by market capitalization showed mixed performances. Hanwha Aerospace (4.7%), LG Energy Solution (2.7%), Kia (1.3%), Celltrion (0.8%), Hyundai Motor (0.5%), and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (0.3%) rose. In contrast, SK Hynix (-1.4%), KB Financial Group (-1.1%), Samsung Biologics (-1.0%), and Samsung Electronics (-0.6%) fell.
The KOSDAQ also closed higher, finishing at 789.45, up 0.40% from the previous day.
Unlike the KOSPI, individuals were the sole net buyers in the KOSDAQ, with a net purchase of 71.4 billion won. Foreign investors and institutions recorded net sales of 36.7 billion won and 7.2 billion won, respectively.
Almost all sectors rose as well. The other manufacturing sector posted the largest gain at 3.07%, followed by metals (1.86%), construction (1.71%), publishing and media reproduction (1.29%), electrical and electronics (1.25%), transportation and warehousing (1.20%), and machinery and equipment (1.12%). Distribution (-1.75%) and non-metallic minerals (-0.87%) declined.
Most of the top 10 KOSDAQ stocks by market capitalization also rose. Ecopro BM recorded the largest gain at 2.6%, followed by Rainbow Robotics (1.4%), Classys (1.3%), Hugel (0.9%), Ecopro (0.7%), Peptron (0.2%), and PharmaResearch (0.1%). LIG ChemBio (-0.5%), HLB (-0.1%), and Alteogen (-0.1%) declined.
