Selected for the Ministry of Education's RISE Regional Cluster Development Project
Securing up to 7 billion KRW in funding over five years
Producing specialized talent for Gyeonggi Province and Uiwang City
Plans for local co-prosperity initiatives
Kaywon University of Art and Design, operated by the Kaywon Academy, a school foundation under Paradise Group, announced on June 4 that it has been selected for a Ministry of Education support program and will promote activities to foster local culture and arts talent as well as co-prosperity initiatives.
Kaywon University of Art and Design formed a consortium with Seoul Institute of the Arts and Chungkang College of Cultural Industries, and was ultimately selected for the "Regional Cluster Development Type (Type 2)" of the "Regional Innovation-led University Support System (RISE)" project, jointly promoted by the Ministry of Education and Gyeonggi Province. The RISE project is a national strategic initiative in which the Ministry of Education delegates administrative and financial authority for university support to local governments, thereby promoting co-prosperity between regions and universities.
Among the RISE project types, "Type 2" focuses on ways for universities to creatively drive the regional economy through arts convergence, in connection with culture and arts-based specialized industries (GX). The universities will work to build a local industrial ecosystem related to culture and the arts, based on the characteristics of the regional industries.
This consortium will secure up to 7 billion KRW in funding over five years and plans to accelerate innovative education and research and development projects closely linked to local industries. Kaywon University of Art and Design will focus on producing specialized talent tailored to the industrial demands of Gyeonggi Province and Uiwang City, where the campus is located, and will work toward co-prosperity with the local community.
Paradise Group established Kaywon University of Art and Design in 1979 through Kaywon Academy and has since been nurturing talent in culture and the arts. In 1980, Kaywon Arts High School was opened, followed by Kaywon Arts Middle School in 2010, establishing Kaywon as a distinguished brand in the fields of art and design.
A representative of Paradise Group stated, "Kaywon University of Art and Design is enhancing the nation's prestige and contributing to strengthening the competitiveness of Korea's key high value-added industries by producing talent in culture and the arts," adding, "As a cradle for nurturing talent in the arts industry, Kaywon will also actively contribute to co-prosperity with the local community."
