Park Jieon, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea who stood by former President Kim Dae-jung, has joined hands with Lee Jaejong, the candidate for Damyang County Governor who served under former President Moon Jae-in. The two will campaign together in their hometown of Damyang.
Former President Moon Jaein's wife, Kim Jungsook, made a surprise visit on the 19th to the inauguration ceremony of Lee Jaejong, the Democratic Party candidate for Damyang County governor’s "GoGo (Go to Hometown) Camp" election office and the joint launch ceremony of the Democratic Party Jeonnam Provincial Party’s campaign headquarters for the April 2 by-election, delivering messages of congratulations and support. On the 21st, Park stated on his Facebook, "There was Park Jieon as chief of staff beside President Kim Dae-jung, and there was Lee Jaejong as an administrator beside President Moon Jae-in," adding, "Now, candidate Lee is returning to his hometown Damyang to lead the region's development as county governor."
Park emphasized, "It is admirable when children succeed elsewhere and return to contribute to their hometown's development," and described Lee Jaejong as "the right person to lead Damyang's progress, utilizing the experience and network he built at the Blue House." He continued, "I will fully support candidate Lee so that he can work for Damyang together with Representative Lee Gaeho," and appealed for support, saying, "I ask all residents to lend their strength as well."
Candidate Lee previously worked at the Blue House during the Roh Moo-hyun administration and the Moon Jae-in administration, and has assisted former President Moon Jae-in in Yangsan, Gyeongnam since his retirement.
The two are scheduled to stand side by side on stage and meet with residents at a major campaign rally for candidate Lee Jaejong near Damyang-eup Market at 9 a.m. on the 22nd.
