American electric vehicle company Tesla has begun hiring senior-level employees across India.
On the 18th (local time), according to the Times of India and others, Tesla announced on the global employment platform LinkedIn that it is recruiting candidates for a total of 13 positions. The roles include store management, service technicians, and customer-facing jobs.
This has led to interpretations that Tesla is aiming to enter India, the world's third-largest automobile market. In 2021, Tesla also built a sales infrastructure in India and formed a task force (TF) consisting of 12 executives. In April last year, there were reports that Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, would personally visit India to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
However, Musk abruptly canceled the schedule just days before the India visit. It is analyzed that this was because India refused to lower electric vehicle tariffs unless Tesla built a factory in the country. At that time, Tesla was also undergoing large-scale restructuring due to declining sales, so the situation was not favorable.
However, the situation changed with the election of Donald Trump as U.S. president. Especially after Prime Minister Modi met with President Trump in the U.S. on the 13th, Tesla's entry into India gained momentum. During the summit, Modi promised to conclude agreements aimed at resolving the U.S. trade deficit.
