Suspects Demanded Ransom from Family
Rescued by Philippine Police on the 15th
A Korean resident kidnapped in the Philippines was released after 6 days.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 15th, a Korean resident identified as Mr. A, living in the Clark area of the Philippines, was kidnapped and rescued by the Philippine police that morning.
Mr. A was kidnapped in the early morning of the 9th while staying at his home by about 10 individuals impersonating officers from the Philippine National Bureau of Investigation and the Immigration Bureau. The suspects reportedly made several ransom calls to his family.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Philippines provided necessary consular assistance by communicating with local police, the Korean National Police Agency, and the victim’s family immediately after receiving the report from the family.
The Ministry’s headquarters also immediately activated the Overseas Korean Protection Task Force, held meetings, and discussed safety measures. The health condition of the safely rescued citizen is reported to be generally good.
Last year, a Korean was also kidnapped in the Clark area but was safely rescued.
