AMD Unveils Next-Generation AI Accelerators and Processors
Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, unveiled the 'Instinct (AMD Instinct™)' accelerator roadmap during her keynote speech at 'Computex 2024' held on June 3rd at the Nangang Exhibition Center in Taipei, Taiwan. She also announced the development of the 'MI325X accelerator,' equipped with the industry's largest memory capacity, scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of this year.
CEO Su expressed confidence, stating, "With the recent acceleration of AI adoption, demand for AMD's high-performance computing platforms is increasing." She added, "We are proud to be working with strategic partners such as Microsoft, HP, Lenovo, and Asus to launch next-generation Ryzen desktop and laptop processor-based products at this Computex." She continued, "We are also pleased to provide an early preview of the leading performance of the next-generation EPYC processors and to announce the future roadmap for AMD Instinct AI accelerators."
The AMD Instinct MI325X accelerator is a product equipped with the industry's best 288GB ultra-high-speed HBM3E memory, designed to strengthen AMD's generative AI performance leadership. It is scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of this year. Next year, the next-generation AMD CDNA™ 4 architecture will be introduced to the market. This product will be utilized in the AMD Instinct MI350 series and is expected by AMD to deliver up to 35 times improved AI inference performance compared to the AMD Instinct MI300 series, which is equipped with the existing AMD CDNA 3. Through continuous performance and feature improvements, the MI400 series accelerator planned for release in 2026 will utilize the CDNA Next architecture.
AMD also announced the 5th generation AMD EPYC™ server processors, products with top-tier performance and efficiency, targeting release in the second half of this year. Additionally, AMD unveiled the 3rd generation AMD Ryzen™ AI 300 series, an AI-supported mobile processor, as well as the AMD Ryzen 9000 series processors for laptops and desktop PCs.
