Taekwondo prospects from Jeonnam competed in Naju, showcasing the skills they have honed over time.
Naju City, Jeonnam (Mayor Yoon Byung-tae) announced on the 13th that the "40th Jeonnam Governor's Cup Taekwondo Competition and the 15th Jeollanam-do Governor's Cup Taekwondo Poomsae Competition, combined with the 105th National Sports Festival Jeonnam Representative 1st Selection Competition," was held over two days starting from the 11th at the Naju Sports Park Multipurpose Gymnasium.
The event was hosted and organized by the Jeonnam Taekwondo Association and the Naju Taekwondo Association, with support from Naju City, the Naju City Council, and the Naju Sports Council.
A total of 1,081 athletes from elementary, middle, high school, university, and general divisions across 22 cities and counties in Jeonnam participated in two categories: sparring and poomsae, heating up the competition venue.
Naju City expects this competition to broaden young athletes' perspectives on Taekwondo and serve as a solid foundation for the development of Korean Taekwondo.
A Naju City official stated, "We expect this competition to be a catalyst for promoting local Taekwondo culture and sports activities."
Following this event, on the 18th, the Kukkiwon Taekwondo Promotion and Dan Testing Competition will be held in Naju. Approximately 1,000 Taekwondo athletes from 22 cities and counties in Jeonnam are expected to visit Naju for this competition.
Mayor Yoon Byung-tae of Naju said, "We support the passionate spirit of the Jeonnam Taekwondo team, the future of Korean Taekwondo," adding, "We will continue to do our best to revitalize the local economy and establish Naju as a sports mecca by hosting various sports competitions."
