Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, will visit several Asian countries including South Korea, Japan, and India this week. In South Korea, he is scheduled to meet President Yoon Suk-yeol and Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong.
Bloomberg News reported on the 26th, citing sources, that Zuckerberg, currently visiting Tokyo, Japan, will complete a two-day schedule there before moving to Seoul on the 28th. The news agency stated, "Zuckerberg will have a packed week in Asia, stopping by South Korea, Japan, and India to develop artificial intelligence (AI) services and meet with government and business leaders," adding, "His Asia tour ranges from AI to wedding parties."
Zuckerberg, who entered Japan last week for a ski trip with his family, will meet with Meta developers in Tokyo over two days, today and tomorrow. Specifically, they will discuss Meta's virtual reality (VR) headset Quest and the large language model (LLM) LLaMA.
In Seoul, he is expected to pay a courtesy visit to President Yoon. He is also reported to meet with Chairman Lee and LG Electronics President Cho Joo-wan to discuss cooperation in AI-related fields. Zuckerberg's visit to South Korea is the first in about 10 years since 2014, when he also met with then-President Park Geun-hye and then-Vice Chairman Lee.
Bloomberg highlighted that Meta previously collaborated with Samsung Electronics on VR headsets and even appeared as a special guest at the 2016 Samsung Unpacked event. The news agency suggested the possibility of AI cooperation, noting, "Zuckerberg is visiting Seoul amid strong competition in AI with rivals such as OpenAI, Microsoft (MS), and Alphabet." Samsung Electronics has established a 'General Artificial Intelligence (AGI) Computing Lab' in Silicon Valley, USA, to develop next-generation chips and is working on AGI-dedicated semiconductors.
Afterward, Zuckerberg will head to India. There, he is expected to attend the wedding party of Anant Ambani, the youngest son of Mukesh Ambani, who is known as Asia's richest person. The news agency added that many prominent figures from business and entertainment will attend the party, which will be held from March 1 to 3 in Jamnagar, Gujarat, western India.
