‘Slush’D’, an event focused on the issues faced by individual cities to promote the growth of local startups, expand global networks, and develop the startup ecosystem, will be held for the first time in Korea in Busan.
Slush’D is a spin-off event of Slush, the world’s largest startup event, and is a regional event that discusses issues in the startup ecosystem faced by local areas, strengthens local communities, and fosters cooperation between startup ecosystems through expanding global networks.
Busan City announced on the 29th at 10 a.m. that ‘BUSAN Slush’D’ will be held at the Busan Eurasia Platform.
At ‘BUSAN Slush’D’ on this day, domestic and international startup ecosystem stakeholders will gather in one place to share startup experiences and discuss development plans to revitalize and globalize the Busan startup ecosystem through solving urban problems.
The opening ceremony, held at 10 a.m., will be attended by Lee Seong-gwon, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs; Park Jae-wook, Chairman of Korea Startup Forum (hereafter Kospo); Choi Seong-jin, CEO of Kospo; Kim Min-ji, Chairperson of Kospo Southeast Region Council; and Jang In-hwa, Chairman of Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. From Finland, the host country of Slush, Natalie Lingwood, Slush General Manager, and Valtteri Meril?inen, Chief of Production, will visit Busan to celebrate the hosting of Slush’D.
Following the opening ceremony, ‘Slush’D X 99℃’, a collaboration between BUSAN Slush’D and the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will feature Chairman Jang In-hwa directly participating to share opinions with junior entrepreneurs about the local economic conditions and startup environment.
In addition, a variety of programs will be offered, including ▲Academic Event (Slush’D Talk) ▲Startup Competition (Slush’D 10) ▲One-on-One Meetings (Meetup) (Slush’D Meet) ▲Startup Exhibition Booths (Slush’D Show) ▲Entrepreneur Talk Room (Slush’D Founder’s Talk Room) ▲Networking (Slush’D Night).
In particular, this event encourages participation mainly from startups based in Busan to support the growth of local companies and revitalize the Busan startup ecosystem. To strengthen cooperation between cities, representatives from global Slush’D host cities such as Wellington in New Zealand, Aarhus in Denmark, and Karachi in Pakistan have been invited to share urban issues and efforts to solve them in each country.
Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs Lee Seong-gwon stated, “Startup companies have played a role in quickly and flexibly responding to rapidly changing economic shifts, creating new economic platforms, and providing creative solutions to social problems.” He added, “Through this BUSAN Slush’D and ‘FLY ASIA’ to be held in October this year, we will build an international startup network (global startup network) to help innovative and excellent companies grow locally and expand overseas. We will do our best to make Busan a leading startup city in Asia.”
This Slush’D event was attracted to Busan by the Korea Startup Forum (Chairman Park Jae-wook), focusing on Busan’s steadily growing startup ecosystem despite the concentration of startups in the Seoul metropolitan area.
Accordingly, Busan City signed a ‘Business Agreement for the Successful Hosting of BUSAN Slush’D’ with the Korea Startup Forum on March 6, and has supported collaboration with startup support organizations and participation of local startups. Thirteen companies nurtured by the Busan Economic Promotion Agency and the Busan Center for Creative Economy and Innovation will participate in exhibitions and meetings at this event.
The city expects this event to be an opportunity for local startup stakeholders to achieve substantial growth and plans to continuously develop startup policies and foster the startup ecosystem.
