[Editor's Note] The subway is a transportation method that anyone can easily access and travel safely with, and it is also an important part of daily walking. We introduce walkable spots around subway stations.
Today's course passes through Apgujeong Station on Line 3, Hyundai Motorstudio Seoul, Dosan Park, and Rodeo Street. Apgujeong Station is named after Apgujeong, a pavilion built by Han Myeonghoe, a powerful official during the reign of King Sejo of the Joseon Dynasty. On the station platform walls, there are paintings of the pavilion Apgujeong (狎鷗亭) and seagulls, which are the origin of the area's name. The traces can only be found on a monument inside the Apgujeong Hyundai Apartment complex near the station. Apgujeong Station is a representative area densely packed with large apartment complexes and commercial districts.
The Dosan Park intersection is home to various imported car dealerships, galleries, and luxury brand stores. Especially worth visiting are the Horim Art Center located along Dosan Park Boulevard and Hyundai Motorstudio at the Dosan Park intersection. Hyundai Motorstudio is a citizen service space of Hyundai Motor Group where visitors can enjoy a unique and luxurious building exterior, friendly docents, gallery interiors close to contemporary art, and test drives without any charge. Inside, there is also a bookstore selling automotive and design-related books and a caf?.
Dosan Park is located in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and was created to honor the patriotism and educational spirit of Dosan Ahn Chang-ho. The total area is a modest 29,816㎡. The park includes Dosan’s tomb, statues, Dosan Memorial Hall, restrooms, shaded trellises, and exercise facilities, as well as ginkgo trees, crape myrtles, hornbeam trees, arrowwood, and hibiscus. Inside the park are the tombs of Ahn Chang-ho and his wife Lee Hye-ryun, statues, a memorial hall, a monument with his sayings, and sports facilities. Going straight from the entrance leads to the joint tomb of Ahn Chang-ho and his wife, and to the east, there is a statue with a pleasant walking path centered around it. The memorial hall inside the park exhibits 71 photographs, 19 letters including those sent by Lee Dong-hwi to Ahn Chang-ho in the United States, documents from the Provisional Government, and Dosan’s diary.
After leaving Dosan Park, if time permits, it is good to visit the caf? alley and Rodeo Street. The Apgujeong caf? alley, where pretty caf?s gather, is lined with caf?s and restaurants of various themes. Rodeo Street is a commercial street formed from the Hanyang Apartment intersection in Apgujeong-dong to the entrance of Hakdong intersection, known as a street of fashion and culture. There are many attractions such as various luxury brand shops, Galleria Department Store, caf?s, and popular restaurants.
