The police have requested arrest warrants for a group suspected of kidnapping and killing a woman in her 40s in front of an apartment in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
On the 1st, the Suseo Police Station in Seoul announced that they had applied for arrest warrants for suspects A (30, unemployed), B (36, liquor store employee), and C (35, law office employee) on charges of robbery-murder and corpse abandonment.
Suspects A and others are accused of kidnapping a woman in her mid-40s who was returning home at 11:46 p.m. on the 29th of last month in front of an apartment complex in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, then killing her near Daejeon and secretly burying the body.
The police secured a statement from the suspects that the body was secretly buried in a mountain near Daecheong Dam in Daejeon, and discovered the body around 5:35 p.m. on the 31st.
According to the police, it was revealed that they planned the crime in advance, targeting the victim’s cryptocurrency (coin) assets. A police official said at a press briefing that "one of the arrested suspects stated that the crime was committed for monetary gain." The amount of coins owned by the victim has not yet been confirmed.
The police are also investigating the possibility of a contract killing. A police official stated, "One of the suspects testified that he participated in the crime on the condition that his debts would be paid off."
