[Asia Economy Reporter Myunghwan Lee] Today's walking course takes us to Ilsan New Town in Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province. Located in the southern part of Ilsan New Town, built as part of the first generation of new towns, is Ilsan Lake Park, a representative tourist attraction of the city. Ilsan Lake Park is beloved by citizens, with annual visitors exceeding 6 million.
Ilsan Lake Park is an ecological park covering over 1 million pyeong (approximately 3.3 million square meters), featuring a 300,000-pyeong (about 1 million square meters) artificial lake at its center. Walking paths, including the Metasequoia Road, are established within the park, making it perfect for walking. The walking course centers around Ilsan Lake Park and passes nearby La Festa and Western Dom.
The walk begins at the Singing Fountain on the east side of Ilsan Lake Park. As its name suggests, the Singing Fountain shoots water in sync with music, creating a musical water display. Colorful lights add to the enjoyment of the fountain show. The musical fountain performances are held up to twice each evening from May to October annually.
The next stop is La Festa. La Festa, which combines commercial facilities and culture, features a cultural street spanning about 3,000 pyeong (approximately 9,900 square meters). Planned as a pedestrian shopping mall from the start, La Festa offers not only shopping but also various cultural events, providing sights, food, and entertainment. Beyond Ilsan Cultural Park lies Western Dom, the next course, which is also a pedestrian-friendly shopping mall promoting itself as a 'modern traditional market.'
Now it is time to head to the main part of the walking course, Ilsan Lake Park. After passing Western Dom, turn right to head straight toward the lake park. At the lake park, you can experience an urban ecological environment and encounter various installed sculptural artworks. Inside the park, there are several exhibition halls such as the Goyang Flower Exhibition Hall, Cactus Exhibition Hall, and Goyang 600-Year Commemoration Exhibition Hall, all worth visiting. Every year from April to May, the Goyang International Flower Festival is held, and in October, the Goyang Autumn Flower Festival takes place, allowing visitors to enjoy flowers while walking.
