High Performance and Low Power Characteristics
Expansion of Applications in Mobile, PC, Automotive, and Server
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-ho Kim] Samsung Electronics has completed performance verification of its 14nm-based LPDDR5X DRAM, developed for the first time in the industry last November, on Qualcomm's latest mobile platform, and has begun leading the next-generation low-power DRAM market.
On the 3rd, Samsung Electronics announced that it verified the industry's highest operating speed of 7.5Gbps by equipping an 8GB LPDDR5X DRAM package on Qualcomm's Snapdragon mobile platform.
Samsung Electronics' LPDDR5X DRAM is about 1.2 times faster than the previous generation LPDDR5 product and can implement enhanced ultra-high-resolution video shooting and artificial intelligence (AI) performance. In addition, by implementing innovative circuit design and low-power dynamic voltage frequency scaling (DVFS) technology, it reduced power consumption by about 20% compared to the existing LPDDR5.
Jinman Han, Vice President and Head of Strategy Marketing at Samsung Electronics' Memory Business Division, said, "Based on the collaboration between Samsung Electronics' latest LPDDR5X DRAM and Qualcomm's mobile platform, we will expand applications of the low-power DRAM market not only for mobile products but also for metaverse, automotive, gaming/AR/VR, high-performance PCs, and AI."
Azuga, Vice President of Product Management at Qualcomm Technologies, also said, "Qualcomm's Snapdragon platform and Samsung Electronics' LPDDR5X DRAM will provide AI engine performance improvements and new features to elevate user experiences in gaming, cameras, and various applications."
Samsung Electronics plans to further expand the premium low-power DRAM market by timely supplying LPDDR5X DRAM with enhanced performance and capacity to global customers, supporting next-generation platform environments.
