[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] In the second quarter, Apple, ranked first in the global wireless earphone market, saw its market share decline, while Xiaomi and Samsung, ranked second and third respectively, experienced an increase.
According to the global wireless earphone market forecast report by market research firm Counterpoint Research on the 2nd, Apple's market share in the global wireless earphone market in the second quarter of this year was 23%, down 12 percentage points from 35% in the second quarter of last year.
Yoon Jeong Lee, a researcher at Counterpoint Research, stated, "Apple's market share fell due to a decrease in sales volume and revenue, but it is expected to recover with the upcoming release of the 3rd generation AirPods this month." She added, "If the pricing is attractive, since the AirPods are being released after a long time, Apple's wireless earphone sales this year could exceed 80 million units."
Following Apple, Xiaomi, which ranked second in the global wireless earphone market, recorded 10%, slightly up from 7% in the same period last year. Notably, Xiaomi performed well in the market segment under $100.
Samsung Electronics, ranked third, recorded a market share of 7%, slightly up from 6% in the same period last year. The researcher explained, "Samsung had a high market share in the premium segment, while Xiaomi performed well in the market under $100."
Meanwhile, the global wireless earphone market size in the second quarter of this year increased by 27% compared to the same period last year. Compared to the previous quarter, sales volume increased by 1%, and revenue size increased by 9%.
