DreamWorks’ comic animation “Kung Fu Panda 2” scored a third consecutive win on the Korean weekend box office as of June 17 to 19, revealed statistics by the Korean Box Office Information System (KOBIS) on Monday.

According to KOBIS, “Kung Fu Panda 2” received a total 278,214 visitors for the past three days, which accumulates to nearly 4.5 million audiences since its premiere in May.

The film, about a clumsy panda learning the skills of kung fu to save the day against an evil emperor, is the second installment of the 2008 film “Kung Fu Panda” with voice actors Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Gary Oldman and Angelina Jolie.

During the same period, Korean film “Sunny” ascended a step to take second place on the weekend chart after attracting 269,866 viewers in 490 theaters nationwide.

The film, starring Yoo Ho-jeong, Sim Eun-gyeong and Jin Hee-kyeong, which looks into some of the memorable moments of girls' teenage years in the 80s, has so far sold over 5.1 million tickets since opening in early May.

American superhero flick “X-Men: First Class” landed at third place on the weekend box office after gaining 260,668 movie-goers in 476 theaters during the three-day session.

The film, which is the fifth in the “X-Men” franchise, starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Bill Milner, comes as the prequel of the past series to show how mutant human beings came to establish their identity and take sides, either for or against human race.

Films ranked from fourth to tenth place were “Super 8,” “White,” “Green Lantern,” “The Lincoln Lawyer,” “Moby Dick,” “Something Borrowed” and “Pirates of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.”
