This crackdown was part of the 'Special Government-Wide Joint Crackdown on Narcotics.' Narcotics investigation teams and crime prevention and order units from local police stations, as well as public officials from the hygiene departments of the relevant district offices, participated. The police inspected for violations of the Narcotics Control Act, while local governments checked for violations of the Food Sanitation Act.
No drug-related crimes were detected as a result of the crackdown. However, some establishments were found to have violated the Food Sanitation Act. In addition, safety inspections to prevent accidents such as fires were conducted in parallel, and establishments were instructed to address any deficiencies found.
The police plan to strengthen crackdowns on clubs, entertainment establishments, and areas with a high concentration of foreigners-places where large numbers of young people are expected to gather ahead of Halloween. In particular, if drug use is confirmed at clubs or entertainment bars, the owners who provided the venues will also be charged with aiding and abetting, as well as providing a place for drug use, and administrative measures such as business suspension will be imposed on violating establishments.
A police official stated, "The identities of those who report drug distribution crimes will be strictly protected, and as the rewards for reporting have been increased, we urge citizens to actively provide information."
