Four New Courses Launched:
AI, Data, Algorithms, and Python
Gangnam District in Seoul (District Mayor Cho Sungmyung) is launching four new courses dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI) and information education through its online learning platform, Gangnam Ingang. All courses are available to anyone, anytime and anywhere, via the Gangnam Ingang website (edu.ingang.co.kr).
These courses are based on the 2022 revised curriculum, which emphasizes strengthening digital literacy. The revision mandates information education as a required subject in middle schools and introduces new AI and data subjects in high schools, highlighting the importance of systematic foundational and applied digital education.
In response to these changes, Gangnam District collaborated with the Korean Association of Information Teachers to develop educational content that reflects the expertise of school field professionals. The newly offered courses include: Opening the Future with Artificial Intelligence, Understanding the World through Data, Algorithms and Problem Solving, and Mastering Python Programming.
Opening the Future with Artificial Intelligence covers AI principles and problem-solving processes, computer vision (image recognition) projects, machine learning data analysis, and hands-on physical computing exercises. Understanding the World through Data teaches the processes of data collection, refinement, and analysis, along with key digital concepts such as encryption and compression.
Algorithms and Problem Solving is designed to expand computational thinking through efficient algorithm design and representation methods, while Mastering Python Programming covers everything from basic syntax to practical exercises, presenting possibilities for expansion into AI, big data, and web fields.
Cho Sungmyung, Mayor of Gangnam District, stated, "These AI and information education courses will provide students with direct opportunities to develop problem-solving skills, data literacy, and coding capabilities. We will continue to introduce educational content that aligns with the changing times to enhance students' competitiveness in career and academic advancement."
