Six-Month Prison Sentence Suspended for Two Years

A man in his 20s who assaulted an acquaintance after becoming enraged by the comment that his girlfriend could be "seduced in 10 minutes" has received a suspended prison sentence.

On July 11, presiding judge Song Jonghwan of the Chuncheon District Court's Criminal Division 1 announced that he had sentenced Mr. A (28), who was indicted on charges of aggravated assault, to six months in prison with a two-year suspension, along with 80 hours of community service.

Mr. A was accused of, on the night of June 28 last year in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, pouring cola and soup on the face of his acquaintance, Mr. B (26), grabbing and shaking his hair, and striking his face with a beer glass while drinking with Mr. B and others. It was found that Mr. A committed the assault after becoming angry at Mr. B's remark implying, "I could seduce your girlfriend in 10 minutes."

Judge Song explained the sentencing by stating, "In determining the sentence, I considered that the defendant has admitted his wrongdoing and is remorseful, that he reached an amicable settlement with the victim, that there were some extenuating circumstances surrounding the incident, and that the degree of harm was not severe."
