The ITU is the UN's oldest specialized agency in the field of information and communication technology (ICT) and serves as a key institution coordinating global ICT policies and standards.

The advisory board was established to explore global cooperation strategies for realizing the social value of AI and promoting sustainable development. Experts from around the world participate as board members. Among Koreans, Professor Choi is the only one to be appointed to the board.

The AI for Good Global Summit is being held in Geneva, Switzerland from July 8 to 11, hosted by the ITU and attended by more than 40 UN-affiliated agencies. The summit aims to address global challenges facing humanity by utilizing AI technology, with key agendas including the discovery of AI application cases, discussions on international policy and technical standards, and strengthening global partnerships.

As an advisory board member for "Innovation for Social Good," Professor Choi will attend the summit to evaluate AI application cases from various countries and analyze them with a focus on public interest and social impact.

Professor Choi stated, "The social impact of technology serves as a mirror reflecting each country's values and systems," and added, "The core values of each society are embedded in technology, resulting in significant differences in how AI is developed and used in each country. These differences also manifest in the varying impacts AI has on society."

She emphasized, "The vision for Korea as an 'AI powerhouse' should not be limited to technological advancement alone, but should focus on enhancing social capital and realizing the values of a community-oriented society through people-centered AI."

Meanwhile, Professor Choi is currently serving as the Dean of the Graduate School of Science and Technology Policy. Externally, she holds positions as a non-executive director at the National Information Society Agency of Korea and as chair of the Korea-OECD Digital Society Initiative.
