Applications Accepted Until July 4
Starting from June 16 to July 4, Seoul Facilities Corporation will be accepting applications for the free use of exhibition and performance spaces within underground shopping malls. This initiative aims to provide citizens with valuable cultural experiences and to revitalize commercial areas.
The available exhibition spaces include the "Euljiro Attriae Gallery," located along the wall of the underground passage between Euljiro 4-ga Station and Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station on Subway Line 2, and the "Eulji 3 District Niche Art Museum," situated between Euljiro 3-ga Station and Euljiro 4-ga Station. Both venues are open art exhibition spaces where citizen artists or amateur individuals and groups can freely participate. Each booking allows for a four-week exhibition period.
The "Euljiro Attriae Gallery" stretches approximately 90 meters and serves as a cultural rest area, offering daily art appreciation opportunities to citizens using the underground shopping mall. The "Niche Art Museum" is about 20 meters in size and is gaining attention as a small yet stylish exhibition space.
For performance spaces, the "Jamsil Underground Plaza" and "Hoehyeon Underground Shopping Mall" are available for booking. These locations serve as citizen-participatory performance venues for activities such as busking and instrumental performances, and can be used free of charge for two-hour slots on the second Saturday of each month.
This round of bookings covers the period from July to December and applications can be submitted via the Seoul Public Service Reservation website (yeyak.seoul.go.kr). Applicants should download the application form and required documents from the recruitment notice for the desired space, complete them, and submit them online.
Bookings are limited to non-commercial activities that focus on public interest and creative work, rather than commercial purposes. The corporation will review applications and notify each applicant of the results individually in early July.
Park Youngyeong, President of Seoul Facilities Corporation, stated, “Through this free booking opportunity, we hope that more citizen artists will be able to showcase their creations and that citizens will find it easier to enjoy cultural experiences in their daily lives. Going forward, Seoul Facilities Corporation will continue to develop exhibition and performance spaces within underground shopping malls as popular urban rest areas for citizens.”
Meanwhile, Seoul Facilities Corporation is pursuing various revitalization strategies, such as recently promoting the creation of a "Smart Rest Area" featuring an artificial intelligence (AI)-based virtual fitting room in the Jonggak Station underground shopping mall. Starting next year, the corporation will also develop sub-branding and design guidelines that reflect the unique characteristics of each underground shopping mall district.
