According to spokesperson Kang Yoo Jung, President Lee visited the Hangang Flood Control Center for about 80 minutes starting at 2 p.m. that day. At the site, President Lee stated, "Given the heavy responsibilities of public officials in charge of safety management, their authority must be expanded," adding, "It is necessary to strengthen their status and authority, and to provide sufficient compensation for their achievements."

To this end, spokesperson Kang relayed that President Lee said, "It is necessary to strengthen the status and authority of safety management positions and to provide sufficient compensation for job performance."
Spokesperson Kang explained that after the inspection, President Lee stressed, "The public sector must prioritize disaster and safety management above all else," and emphasized that incidents such as the Sewol ferry disaster, the Itaewon disaster, and the Osong underpass disaster must never be repeated.
Afterward, President Lee visited the Itaewon disaster site to pay his respects. Accompanied by his aides, he laid chrysanthemums at the site and observed a moment of silence.
