According to the city on June 12, this selection is the result of competition among three cities and counties designated as agrobiotech industrial complexes (Namwon, Jinan, and Gochang), with only two being chosen. As a result, Namwon City's policies to foster young farmers are expected to gain further momentum.

The smart farm training and demonstration complex will be established on a 4.2-hectare site in Daesan-myeon, Namwon City. From this year until 2029, a total project budget of 5 billion KRW (2.5 billion KRW each from the province and the city) will be invested.

The complex will include 0.5 hectares of greenhouse and 0.9 hectares of open-field cultivation space, providing hands-on smart agriculture training for young farmers wishing to join the agrobiotech industrial complex, as well as local farmers.

Through this project, the city aims to enhance the farming skills of young startup farmers. Graduates will receive additional points when applying for long-term lease-type smart farms and startup complexes, encouraging a steady influx of talent and settlement in the region. In addition, the use of demonstration facilities for technology research and data accumulation is expected to further strengthen the overall competitiveness of the agrobiotech industry.

In particular, the smart farm training center will serve not only as an educational facility but also as a practical training space designed to minimize early-stage failures for young farmers. Mentoring and consulting programs will also be operated in collaboration with the local Agricultural Technology Center and Namwon Glocal Campus.

Mayor Choi Kyungshik said, "This selection is a symbolic example that demonstrates the city's commitment to nurturing talent in smart agriculture in Namwon, beyond simply securing an educational facility. We expect this to help young farmers settle stably and serve as an opportunity to enhance both the sustainability and competitiveness of Namwon's agriculture."
