On June 14, Gyeonggi Province will host the inaugural event of its resident-participatory cultural program, "Weekend N Dodam," called "Saessak Dodam," at Dodamso (the former governor's residence) in Paldal-gu, Suwon.
"Weekend N Dodam" is a cultural festival that brings together residents to celebrate all four seasons, offering programs each quarter that reflect the unique characteristics of each season. The first event of the year, Saessak Dodam, is designed as an experience-based program for children and families to enjoy together.
The main programs include: ▲ Saessak Market (a kids' flea market), ▲ Eco-friendly Saessak Playground, and ▲ Saessak Bookstore.
At Saessak Market, 20 teams of young sellers, including children from multicultural families, families with children with disabilities, and other local residents, will sell items they have prepared themselves. Participating children will have the opportunity to experience economic activity and social interaction.
Other activities include meeting a grandmother who reads stories, a lecture on cultivating children's reading habits, an eco-friendly playground made from recycled wood, and a mural painting experience themed around dreams.
There will also be bubble art and magic performances by artists participating in Gyeonggi Province's Opportunity Income for Artists program.
Following Saessak Dodam, "Weekend N Dodam" will continue throughout the year with programs themed around each season, such as dance, singing contests, meditation, and yoga.
Kim Sangsoo, Director-General of Autonomous Administration at Gyeonggi Province, said, "Dodamso is a space where any resident can freely enjoy culture in their daily lives. We hope this event will provide a joyful and meaningful experience for children who have had limited opportunities to participate in cultural activities."
