This year's GITF was conducted as the first joint marketing project of 2025 by the Tourism Promotion Organization for Asia Pacific Cities (TPO). Pohang City, as a TPO member city, engaged in vigorous promotional activities with the aim of boosting tourism exchanges with major Asian cities and enhancing its brand recognition in the international tourism market.

In line with the recent trends in China for "Free Independent Travel (FIT)" and "experience-oriented daily travel," which are gaining popularity among Chinese tourists, the city introduced major tourist attractions that showcase Pohang's unique sensibility and natural landscapes.

Landmarks such as Space Walk, Marine Skywalk, and Homigot Sunrise Plaza, as well as large-scale cultural festival content like the Pohang International Fireworks Festival scheduled for June, were presented to capture the attention of local visitors.

In addition, during the TPO joint promotion seminar held at the expo, the city highlighted Pohang's differentiated tourism resources, its experience in hosting international events, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) infrastructure such as the Pohang International Exhibition and Convention Center (POEX), which is scheduled to open in 2027, to tourism industry professionals and delegations from member cities, emphasizing the city's potential and competitiveness as a tourism destination.

Yoon Cheonsu, Director of the Tourism Industry Division, said, "This exhibition was a valuable opportunity to enhance Pohang's brand value in the Chinese-speaking market and to promote both our MICE industry and tourism resources. We will continue to actively utilize international tourism networks such as TPO so that Pohang can grow into a global hub city for marine tourism and business."

The Guangzhou International Tourism Fair (GITF), which began in 1993, is the largest international tourism expo in China. Marking its 33rd edition this year, it has established itself as a leading tourism event in Asia, with participation from over 1,000 organizations representing more than 60 countries worldwide.
