Dong-A University Law School Holds Special Lecture by Former Prosecutor General Lee Wonseok

Special Lecture on Legal Ethics:
"What Do Lawyers Live By?"

Dong-A University Law School (Dean: Song Siseop) announced on the 14th that it had held a special lecture on legal ethics, inviting former Prosecutor General Lee Wonseok.

The special lecture, held on May 12 in a law school classroom at Dong-A University's Bumin Campus, was conducted for two hours under the theme "What Do Lawyers Live By?"

During the lecture, former Prosecutor General Lee Wonseok urged law school students not to become fixated solely on the law, but to become legal professionals who understand the principles of the world and also consider human emotions.

He stated, "The law is fundamental, but simply following the law is not enough," and added, "The world of law is binary, such as winning or losing a case, guilty or not guilty, acknowledgment of charges or acquittal. Legal professionals should not remain confined to this binary perspective. That is only the minimum requirement."

He went on to cite examples such as drafting the "Special Act on the Registration of Real Estate for Livestock Houses" during his time at the Ministry of Justice, and the Gimhae civilian aircraft crash during his service at the Busan District Prosecutors' Office. He explained, "The law is binary, distinguishing only between right and wrong, but reason moves forward in a spectrum as diverse as a rainbow," and emphasized, "Do not handle matters solely according to the law, but act in accordance with reason, win people's hearts, and pursue humane justice."

Former Prosecutor General Lee Wonseok passed the 37th National Judicial Examination and served as a prosecutor at the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office, Busan District Prosecutors' Office, as a research officer at the Central Investigation Department of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, as a prosecutor at the Legal Affairs Division of the Ministry of Justice, as the head of the Anti-Corruption Investigation Division of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, as the chief prosecutor of the Special Investigation Department 1 at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, as deputy chief prosecutor at the Suwon High Prosecutors' Office, as chief prosecutor at the Jeju District Prosecutors' Office, and as deputy chief prosecutor at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office. He became the 45th Prosecutor General and retired in September 2024, concluding nearly 30 years of service as a prosecutor.
