On-Site Promotions and Focused Social Media Campaigns
Targeting Areas with Low Voter Turnout
Gwangju Bukgu District is making an all-out effort to boost voter turnout ahead of the 21st presidential election.
According to Bukgu District on May 11, the district has developed and begun implementing a multi-faceted promotional plan to encourage voter participation until June 3. The district has established a comprehensive strategy that covers both online and offline channels, including strengthening on-site promotions, producing and distributing content linked to the district office's official social media accounts, and operating shuttle buses.
On May 9, a large banner reading "Democracy is completed through voting" was installed on the exterior wall of the district office. During this month, similar banners will be posted at 10 local administrative welfare centers and community SOC facilities. This effort is further supported by informational messages attached to municipal waste collection vehicles and announcements broadcast to 431 apartment complexes.
In particular, apartment broadcasts will be aired twice each on the day before and the day of both early and main voting. In areas that have recorded low voter turnout in the past, vehicle-mounted loudspeaker broadcasts will be deployed intensively for direct promotion.
On eight social media channels operated by the Bukgu District Office, including Instagram, YouTube, KakaoTalk, blogs, and Facebook, content such as card news and short-form videos is being posted continuously. Additionally, separate KakaoTalk messages containing information about early voting days and polling stations are being sent out.
Meanwhile, to assist residents in areas with poor transportation conditions, shuttle buses will operate on election day. These routes will serve areas with limited access to polling stations, such as Geon-guk-dong and Seokgok-dong. In cooperation with the Bukgu Election Commission, routes have been established to stop at Hyoryeong Senior Welfare Town, Gwangju Dong Elementary School, and the Gwangju Lake Ecological Park District Center. Each shuttle bus will make two to five round trips per polling station on election day.
Moon In, the head of the district office, stated, "The flower of democracy is the election, and it is the residents' votes that complete it. We will do our utmost to ensure that every single valuable vote from each voter is cast without exception."
