On May 9, the Korea Exchange announced that it held an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders at its Seoul headquarters and appointed Kim Hongsik, former Director of Fiscal and Financial Policy at the Office for Government Policy Coordination, as the new Chairman of the Market Surveillance Committee.
His term will begin on May 12, 2025, and last for three years until May 11, 2028.
Chairman Kim, born in 1970, graduated from the Department of Business Administration at Seoul National University and completed a master's program in business administration at both Seoul National University and the University of Michigan in the United States. He has served as Head of the Capital Market Investigation Team at the Financial Services Commission, Director of Planning and Administration at the Financial Intelligence Unit, and Head of the Financial Stability Support Team at the Financial Services Commission. From 2022 until last year, he was Director of Fiscal and Financial Policy at the Office for Government Policy Coordination.
