The Democratic Party of Korea has filed complaints against 16 individuals for spreading fake news claiming that 'Representative Lee Jae-myung intentionally set the wildfires in the Yeongnam region in China.'

The Democratic Party's Special Committee for Emergency Response to Wildfire Disasters held its second meeting at the National Assembly on the 29th and stated, "We have filed complaints under the name of the Public Communication Committee's False Information Monitoring Team against 16 individuals who deliberately spread fake news to exploit the wildfires for political strife and to criticize the Democratic Party."
Assemblyman Jo Gye-won said, "Overcoming national disasters and crises is a measure and value that all citizens must commonly uphold, and exploiting this for political strife is unacceptable," adding, "The Democratic Party will respond strictly to fake news."
Kim Byung-joo, chairman of the special committee, also said, "Jeon Han-gil, who advocates election fraud conspiracy theories, is spreading conspiracy theories about this wildfire as well," and added, "Groundless conspiracy theories aimed at inciting far-right forces can never be tolerated."
