Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa District, started the new year 2025 by prioritizing residents' safety.

Before his official schedule, Mayor Seo visited the Olympic Park Mongchontoseong sunrise viewing spot on the morning of January 1st at 7:30 AM as a private citizen.

The district canceled the sunrise event on December 30th due to the Jeju Air passenger plane accident. However, anticipating a large crowd of residents at the popular sunrise spot, Olympic Park Mongchontoseong, the district deployed 166 staff members and volunteers to implement safety measures. Resident groups such as the women's association distributed tea and hand warmers to prepare for the cold.

In fact, over 15,000 residents visited the event site from early dawn on New Year's Day to watch the sunrise. Mayor Seo checked the safety situation on site, exchanged New Year's greetings with residents, and enjoyed the sunrise together.

Following this, Mayor Seo began his official 2025 schedule at 9:30 AM by paying respects at the National Cemetery in Dongjak District, Seoul.

At 10:30 AM, he visited the 'Joint Memorial Altar for the Victims of the Jeju Air Passenger Plane Accident' set up in front of the main entrance of Seoul City Hall in Jung District, Seoul.

After laying flowers and observing a moment of silence to honor the victims, Mayor Seo said, “I extend my deepest condolences and sympathy to the families who lost their beloved ones,” and added, “This year, I will focus on protecting residents' safety, the top administrative priority, and take the lead in creating a safe Republic of Korea.”
