Hosted by Chosun Biz and sponsored by Chosun Ilbo, TV Chosun, and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the 13th Korea's Most Beloved Brand Awards 2023 were selected through consumer direct voting and external judges' evaluation on seven criteria including reliability, favorability, and satisfaction, to discover brands loved by the public, recognized globally, and representing Korea in the era of global competition across various fields.
The Shinan tidal flats, which won the grand prize in the World Natural Heritage category, were registered as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site in July 2021, and under the name "Korean Tidal Flats," cover a wide area accounting for 85% of four tidal flats in total.
Additionally, the county has devoted numerous efforts over 18 years from 2003 until the registration to globalize the Shinan tidal flats and achieve UNESCO World Natural Heritage status.
It earned the honor of World Natural Heritage by being the only site in the world where the "sand and gravel linear system" has been reported, having the world's deepest 40-meter-deep pearl sediment layer, showing a complex and diverse evolutionary process as an ongoing tidal flat, and based on this habitat, possessing world-class biodiversity, as well as being recognized as a resting place and sanctuary for migratory birds that require international protection.
Governor Park Woo-ryang stated, "I believe this brand award is a prize given to the residents who have overcome numerous crises over 18 years and have supported the World Heritage site in every possible way," and added, "We will do our best to protect and manage the ecosystem of the Shinan tidal flats, recognized as the world's best natural environment."
