GS25 Launches Autumn Instant Fish Cake Service... Introduces 'Lobster Eomuk' The model is announcing the launch of GS25's instant fish cake operation.

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] GS Retail’s convenience store GS25 announced that starting from the 1st, it will operate instant fish cakes at over 1,000 stores to welcome the chilly autumn season.


GS25’s instant fish cakes are products developed in partnership with the premium fish cake brand 'Goraesa Eomuk'. 'Goraesa Eomuk' does not add preservatives and uses a patented suction-type oil removal device to reduce the oil content on the surface of the fish cakes.


GS25 explained that it increased the surimi content in its existing best-selling products such as Jeopsagak, Double Jeopsagak, and Assorted Fish Cakes to enhance the rich flavor and chewy texture. This year, they additionally introduced two premium lines: 'Rabbyeolbong' fish cakes containing lobster meat, and 'Teukbyeolbong' fish cakes, which are steamed once and then fried to enhance the natural taste of the fish meat.


Stores offering instant fish cakes will provide not only the katsuobushi sauce supplied by GS25 but also unique recipes featuring crab, anchovy, green onion, kelp, and other ingredients to offer customers a differentiated taste experience.


During October, GS25 is running an event where customers who purchase four types of 1,500 won fish cake products will receive 'Sweet and Sour' jelly as a gift. Marketing activities will also feature a competition between existing products like Double Jeopsagak and Assorted Fish Cakes and newly introduced products such as Rabbyeolbong and Teukbyeolbong. Based on sales data collected throughout October, additional promotions will be held in November for the best-selling product categories.


According to GS25’s 2020 instant fish cake sales data, sales composition by commercial area was highest in office areas (46%), followed by residential areas (32%), and tourist spots (17%). By time of day, sales were highest from 5 to 7 p.m. (29%), 7 to 9 a.m. (24%), and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (23%). GS25 explained, "The popularity of instant fish cakes, which are convenient snacks for both workplaces and homes and can replace a simple meal instead of rice, is reflected in the sales composition."
