On September 3, Jeollanam-do held a kickoff meeting for the Jeonnam Province Support Task Force (TF) for the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo at the Jeongcheol Room of the provincial government office, officially launching a comprehensive support system to ensure the successful hosting of the Expo.

The task force was established under the special directive of Jeollanam-do Governor Kim Yungrok. At a policy meeting with department heads on August 19, Governor Kim underscored the need to form a task force that would enable all departments to provide their full support for the successful hosting of the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo, instructing the creation of an integrated support system led by the Vice Governor for Administrative Affairs.

The task force is headed by the Vice Governor for Administrative Affairs, with the Director of the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Bureau serving as deputy head. It includes participation from 17 departments, the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education, Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency, the Seohae Regional Coast Guard, other related agencies, and 22 cities and counties across the province.

The meeting, presided over by Vice Governor Myung Changhwan, was attended by 30 participants, including representatives from 17 departments and the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo Organizing Committee. The agenda included a report on the current preparations for the Expo and presentations on interdepartmental support strategies.

Going forward, the task force will be subdivided into five areas: planning and publicity, external cooperation, safety operations, cultural events, and content and environment. Until six months before the opening, regular meetings will be held once a month, and then twice a month thereafter, to monitor the progress of preparations.

Support will be provided in each of the five areas, in coordination with the responsibilities of the respective departments, in line with the progress of the Expo preparations.

The planning and publicity division will focus on budget support and media promotion to raise the Expo's profile both domestically and internationally and to actively boost public enthusiasm. The external cooperation division will facilitate the recruitment of participating countries and international organizations, as well as attract sponsorships and donations from corporations and Jeonnam natives living elsewhere.

The safety operations division will oversee comprehensive safety management, covering transportation, food and beverage safety, fire and emergency response. It will also provide support for the convenience of the elderly and people with disabilities, and manage volunteers to ensure that all visitors can safely enjoy the Expo.

The cultural events division will support the opening and closing ceremonies, major commemorative events, and citizen participation programs such as cultural and arts events linked to the Expo. It will also prepare tourism products so that Expo participants can experience the unique attractions of Jeollanam-do.

The content and environment division will support the planning of content beyond the exhibition halls, the operation of promotional booths for local companies, the creation of gardens at the event venue, and environmental maintenance to provide a pleasant viewing environment.

Vice Governor Myung Changhwan emphasized, "The 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo is an international event that will re-highlight the value of islands and is a golden opportunity to promote Jeollanam-do's status to the world. Centered on the task force, we will ensure its success through close cooperation among the province, Yeosu City, the Expo organizing committee, and related agencies."

The 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo, under the theme "Islands: Connecting the Sea and the Future," will be held for two months from September 5 to November 4, 2026, in the Jinmo District of Yeosu. The Expo is expected to generate a variety of economic and social achievements, including the recovery of tourism demand, the development of the southern coastal and Namjung regions, and the expansion of international exchanges.
